Timothy Cleary, Associate Professor, (Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with school psychology specialization from Graduate Center of the City University of New York) is a member of the Department of Applied Psychology within the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) at Rutgers University. Dr. Cleary’s research has focused primarily on motivation and self-regulated learning issues across academic, athletic, and medical education contexts. He has developed a variety of assessment and intervention approaches designed to optimize the academic success of students, particularly those from marginalized and vulnerable populations. Dr. Cleary has published extensively on self-regulated learning and served as a co-editor on a book examining innovative self-regulation interventions across diverse disciplines. Dr. Cleary’s research has been supported by grants from university-sponsored competitions, professional foundations, and the U.S. Air Force. He is an editorial board member on several education and psychology journals, such as Journal of School Psychology, Journal of Educational Psychology, and Psychology in the Schools and reviews for several other journals on an ad hoc basis. Over the past 6 years, he has served various leadership roles in an AERA Special Interest Group (SIG), including secretary, program chair, and SIG chair, and consults throughout the world on issues pertaining to self-regulated learning.
