John Mark Froiland is an assistant professor at the University of Northern Colorado. He received his PhD at Michigan State University, where he studied motivation to learn with Jere Brophy. Dr. Froiland practiced for 5 years as school psychologist, specializing in preventive problem-solving. He worked at Purdue for two years as U.S. Institute of Education Sciences Postdoctoral Fellow in Early Childhood Education, Human Development and Family Studies. He is on the editorial boards of School Psychology International, School Psychology Forum, Contemporary School Psychology, and Educational Psychology (Taylor and Francis). He has published intervention research on parental autonomy support and children's emotional health, and has published many articles on the role of positive parent involvement in promoting the development of achievement.
