Thomas Kubiszyn received his PhD in School Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. He is Professor and Chair of the Department of Educational Psychology and has been the Training Director for the PhD in School Psychology Program at the University of Houston (UH) since its inception in 2005 under his leadership. In 2009 the program was accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). Previously, he was training director for the Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics Rotation at the Children’s Hospital of Austin/Austin Pediatric Education Program, had an adjunct faculty appointment with UT-Austin, and maintained a part-time independent practice. Before becoming a full-time educator he worked as a school psychologist in California and Texas, and was in full time independent practice from 1981-1995. From 1995 to 1998 he was an Assistant Executive Director for Professional Practice with the APA Practice Directorate. He also directed the Office of Policy and Advocacy in the Schools until 2001, and continued to be a consultant and advisor to that Office until it was consolidated with other Practice Directorate offices. He is a licensed psychologist and a member of the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.

The tenth edition of his textbook, Educational Testing and Measurement; Classroom Application and Practice will be published in 2012. He presents regularly at international, national, and state conferences and has published several book chapters and journal articles in the School Psychology Quarterly, Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, American Psychologist, Clinical Psychology Review, The School Psychologist, and other publications. His scholarly interests are varied, including pediatric psychopharmacology safety, measurement and assessment, policy and professional issues, and interprofessional collaboration. Dr. Kubiszyn is a member of the National Academies of Practice, is an APA fellow, and has served on the Executive Committee of the APA Board of Professional Affairs (BPA). He served as BPA liaison to the APA Board of Educational Affairs (BEA) and the APA Committee for Psychological Tests and Assessments (CPTA), and served on the APA Task Force to Revise the APA Psychopharmacology Training Curricula and Related Policies and has chaired two APA D16 (School Psychology) psychopharmacology task forces. He was also past co-chair and APA representative to the interorganizational Joint Committee on Testing Practices (JCTP). While employed by the APA he also staffed the APA/NASP Interorganizational Committee, The Task Force on Professional Child and Adolescent Psychology (TFPCAP), and the Psychological Assessment Workgroup (PAWG). He chaired two APA Division 16 pediatric psychopharmacology task forces in 1992 and 2002.
